do you want to be a painter or an artist?
i want to be myself... so, an artist.i talk about painting because i dont feel that way ( thinking vs doing it ) in any other media.
There is a certain condition on being an artist, at least since sixteenth century on our european culture, that demands to think on what is done and the way is done. On nowadays is not different, but we are always on time to break that tradition. are you????
Hum actually i'm not, in a way i would like to create without thinking,it will be easier, but that will be too cocky/coward and i don´t think that easy stuff are funny or worth it. So no, i'm not ready to brake that " tradition". I think that dadaist almost did that but i question myself if its possible to don't think about something you create. When i talk about thinking in painting its not because i dont think in the others "media", but in painting is always more dificult, is really thinking in a destroctive way, thinking about everything, not just the colours or the forms, but should i do it, why should i turn a thought in to an object, why do i need to show it to the world, do i care about opinion, or not, should i care or not, blah blah. ( i think i know some answers for some of them but i'm always "renewing" myslef, so i ask myself over and over again ).I think that now with the contemporary art we like to see all the smart and erudite message, almost like a clever art, i will not say that its not importante to have those characteristics but i miss the emotion and the sentimental/visceral that we see in the modernists art. But... i'm just one confused kid that doesn't know if he want to be clarified :)
On nowadays, Art is a search, where the most important is to continuously make questions to open new doors. The ones that are looking for answers on Art, are not artists: are technicians that are looking for recipes. So, I'm sure that thinking on what you do and the way you do it, makes you a better painter (artist).
